It dawned on me tonight that there are numerous people who think that if ONE single thing goes wrong for them with a meal, that it's okay to tip 10%, that we'll somehow understand that that was part of the agreement beforehand, and be happy to see them the next time they come in. Yes, you can get bad service, but the best thing to do in those cases is to tell the manager, but don't do a ten percent tip if an order is done wrong, or even if, as I did tonight, your server enters the order wrong and admits it - that's not bad service. That's a small boo boo adequately remedied. Think of your general delight in the evening, not that one loose, not even lousy, moment. It would be like not writing a thank you note to a party host because they forgot to do your martini up, or they ran out of ice, which is different than not writing a thank you note because the host and hostess were rude and you had a bad time. Actually, it more closely resembles writing a NO THANKS note.
