The snow plow guys came by just as I'd started shoveling today. I'm still not convinced that it was $25 well spent. My back is less sore, but it doesn't have that clean surface that only the blade of a good shovel achieves, like infantry versus air power. The addition of salt makes it cleaner, but not as pristine as a shoveled drive. I wonder if they'll ever start attaching some flexible, super-strong ceramic or carbon fiber blade to the end of plows, allowing a super-clean scrape without the danger of tearing up asphalt. I guess you could even coat it with some ice melting solution to make it work even more effectively. Question, I'm sure, is the costs versus benefits. There is probably some tinkerer, a retired chemical or ceramics engineer, in Vermont who has a plow blade that works wonders, but isn't feasible for mass production.
