I just realized that one of the more profound aspects of institutionalized religion is that they become veritable distribution channels for ideas related to morality. To control the dialogue around religion is to control the dialogue around morality, which is how churches constantly ebb and flow around ideas of what it means to live as Christ/Mohammed/Buddha/Krishna/Abraham (although I wonder what Judaism would trace its history to) or what the founder of Ba'Hai faith seems to be becoming. I wonder if we'll ever get to the point where we create enough hospitable and loving surroundings for people around the globe that we each recognize the divinity in one another, rather than going off on some wild goose chase cop out to find an excuse for our failings, or a means of escaping fear into greater fear by oppressing others equally afraid, but not willing or able to wield power.
All of these avatars keep coming back to us out of profound love and pain, knowing that they are giving up known bliss for known pain in sacrificing, at the very least, material comfort to bring us the message that there is no comfort in material things, only passing delight. Passing delight that we should ensure we pass on to future generations.
Something has gone very wrong with the convergence of dumbing down media and greater intermingling of the colonizers with the colonized - which is one of my general theorems on the state of affairs in the United States - that no where else do you have such an intermingling of the colonizers, whites, and the colonized, slaves of African ancestry, and people of color moving here from other previously colonized nations, many of whom, especially from the rest of the southern hemispheres, were generally cool enough or close enough in class to intermingle with people of other tribal ancestry - rather than killing them. Which, ironically, may be the way that we finally learn to get along - by the continued intermingling of nations and ethnicities in marrying and producing children of multiple heritages.
Gonna take a long long time, and we have too many big bombs around here now, and massively organized hatred, to not get up on it, those who understand.
