I can't imagine what it must have been like, taking those first ships across the sea, making a leap of faith beyond the unknown into the unknowable. I think there must have been fear mixed with the excitement, and that early sailors must have had their equivalent of rum, especially to get through the rocky nights. I understand now why some of the more illustrious figures from history, Sir Francis Drake for one, even Charles Darwin, had their faith in God and self expanded by being out on the open sea.
We were on a modern cruise ship, designed for comfort, and the waves, especially after hurricane Stan, were large enough that sleeping in our darkened room had the comfort and fear associated with being in the womb. The experience makes me want to sail sometime with Ron Igou and his wife, taking to the real sea in a real boat, except with ports of call centered around island hopping, rather than riding the open, open ocean.
You have a very interesting writing style. I like it. I enjoyed the read.

Uh, hell yeah. My first night at sea I dreamt I was superman flying over hills and dales and mighty small towns.
