Loki is getting older, the ravages of time almost suddenly catching up, but still with an irrepresible spirit. I think as long as that is still around, it won't be time to send him peacefully on his way.
We don't get to see death the way our relatives saw death. This generation is getting to see more than I think we ever hoped to in our lifetimes, but it's more sterile for us, more numbingly, unbelievably grotesque that it all seems impersonal, like gore in a film or a video game.
Back then, death was a more personal affair. A relative coming to live with you as he or she dies, literally on her death bed.
