Modern Thievery

This was almost inevitable, the absentmindedness of me, the number of forgotten cards.

Swipers on ATM's has been a gift.

But not in D.C.

I finally had my first case of a stolen check card.

I hope the CVS purchases were for diapers at least, along with the $89 at some wine and liquor store. Barmy.

What a strange sensation to know someone posing as me wandered around last night, living large, making smaller transactions, all of them under $100, including one for an $80 metrorail card.

Unfortunately, those are amounts larger than I would spend.

Spending that amount of discretionary income would have seemed like riches to me as well.

A Museum of the Museum

I stopped by the National Building Museum on my way out of D.C. on Saturday, quite by accident. I thought I may have read the map wrong - surely this would have been something someone sometime would have recommended I see.

The building itself was constructed to house the Pension Bureau, at a time when Washington did not want to risk civil war veterans occupying the city.

And it is magnificent, just to stand inside and look up.

Great Society architecture is much more beautiful, and equally grand, to Fascist architecture, and that is a lesson we should learn and know in these times. That is the choice we face.
